President Elbegdorj arrives in Uzbekistan

President Elbegdorj arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and was warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mirziyayev Shavkad.

Prime Minister of Uzbekistan thanked President Elbegdorj for accepting the invitation to participate in the Summit. Prime Minister gave the President an overview of the country’s development efforts and achievements and shared with ideas and thoughts to expand the bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Mongolia.

Uzbekistan has a population of 27 people and is rich in natural resources. Uzbekistan is popular with its cotton production, natural gas and oil and agricultural products. It is self-sufficient in food production and virtually doesn’t import foodstuff. Its main export commodities are cotton, crops, textiles and cars. Since it reformed its farming policy and introduced a long-term land lease to farmers, Uzbekistan recorded a substantial growth in people’s real income and now enjoys a wide diversity of exports.

Uzbekistan adopted a policy to ensure self-sufficiency in energy and has started successfully undertaking major infrastructure complexes.

Prime Minister Mirziyayev Shavkad views that Mongolia and Uzbekistan has broad opportunities to develop cooperation in tourism and agriculture.

President Elbegdorj thanks the Uzbekistani Premier for warm welcome and expressed confidence in further promoting multifaceted cooperation and relations with this country, with which Mongolia has had historical connections.
