Decree of the President of Mongolia Ts. Elbegdorj on Setting Up Official Date to Celebrate the Great Khan’s Birthday

This year is an 850th anniversary of the birthday of the Great Chingis Khan. This event of proudly celebrating nationwide our grand khan’s birthday is a great honor for all Mongolians. Accordingly, President Elbegdorj issued a decree #04, on officializing the birthday of Chingis Khan- Temuujin, January 9, 2011.
The official setting of this date by the Mongolian state, celebrating it as a national day of pride and making it continuous celebration for generations to come is meaningful for our country, nation and for our successors.
The President’s decree in full text:

DECREE OF THE PRESIDENT
The Official Celebration of the Birthday of Chingis Khan-Temujin
Based on the Article 34, Clause 1 of the Constitution of Mongolia and Section 1, Article 9 of the Law for President, it has been decreed that:
1. Based on the recommendation of the Academy of Science and the conclusion of the Working group, the birthday of the Chingis khan-Temujin has been declared as the first day of the first winter month in the year of 1162 of the lunar calendar.
2. It has been declared that a public celebration of the Great khan’s birthday is a “Day of the Mongolian Pride.”
