Standard of Mongolian National Flag

Approved by the National Standardization Council Resolution No.35 of 23 June 2011.
This standard will enter into force on 22 February 2012.

1. Objective
The standard sets forth the general requirements for the size, colour, the size of the soyombo (national emblem) and the fabric of the state flag.
2. The scope and usage

2.1. The standard shall be followed when flagging and placing of the state flag during national holidays, ceremonies and other state events of honour as stipulated by the Constitution of Mongolia and the Law on State Symbols and in the use of the flag in gorgets, souvenirs, posters and labels (sewing, drawing, carving, printing, stitching, laminating, piercing, etc).
2.2. Citizens and entities shall be required to follow the standards when using the state flag for the purposes as prescribed in paragraph 2.1.

3. Normative citation
In case of changes to the standards as prescribed by these standards and other related documents, the latest official publishing shall be cited.

4. The definition of terms

4.1. Colour model (CMYK) – The denomination of main colours
C – cyan (aqua) – water colour
M – magenta (pink) – pink colour
Y – yellow - yellow colour
K – black - black colour
5. The general requirements for the state flag

5.1. Colour requirements
5.1.1 The appearance of the flag shall correspond to picture 1.
5.1.2 The flag shall combine red, blue and red bands.
5.1.3 The middle band of the flag corresponding to the one third of the size of the flag shall be in blue (C 100%, M 60%, Y 000%, K 000%) colour.

5.1.4 The two bands each equal to the one third of the size of the flag shall be in red (C 010%, M 100%, Y 090%, K 000%) colour.

5.1.5 Soyombo that is placed in the middle of the hoist-side red band shall be in golden yellow (C 000%, M 015%, Y 000%, K 000%) colour.

5.2. Size requirements

5.2.1 Despite the actual size of the flag and when making and drawing of the flag, the 1:2 relation in the width and length as prescribed in the master model of the flag that is annexed to the Constitution shall be firmly observed.
5.2.2 The measurements shown in picture 2 shall be observed when making the flag.

Explanation: ‘A’ denotes any length of choice. The appearance can be maximized or minimized. Eg: If the length of A is 1cm, 3A is 3 cm, 1.5A is 1.5 cm, etc.
Explanation: The strings to tie the flag to the hoist are not accounted in the size of the flag.

5.3. Soyombo requirements

5.3.1 When placing the soyombo onto the flag, the measurements shown in picture 3 shall be observed.

Explanation: ‘a’ denotes any length of choice. The appearance can be maximized or minimized. Eg: if ‘a’ is 1 cm, then 3a is 3 cm, 1.5a is equal to 1.5 cm., etc.

5.3.2 The fire in the soyombo shall correspond to the measurement as shown in picture 4.

Explanation: ‘a’ denotes any length of choice. The appearance can be maximized or minimized. Eg: if ‘a’ is 1 cm, then 0.5a is 0.5 cm, 2.5a is 2.5 cm, 5a is 5 cm., etc.

5.3.3 The sun and the moon in the soyombo shall correspond to the measurement shown in picture 5.

Explanation: ‘a’ denotes any length of choice. The appearance can be maximized or minimized. Eg: if ‘a’ is 1 cm, then 1.5a is 1.5 cm, 4a is 4 cm, 6a is 6 cm., etc.

5.3.4 The triangle and the rectangle in the soyombo shall correspond to the measurement shown in picture 6.

Explanation: ‘a’ denotes any length of choice. The appearance can be maximized or minimized. Eg: if ‘a’ is 1 cm, then 2a is 2 cm, 3a is 3 cm, etc.

5.3.5 The two fish shall be placed as shown in picture 7.

Explanation: ‘a’ denotes any length of choice. The appearance can be maximized or minimized. Eg: if ‘a’ is 1 cm, then 0.6a is 0.6 cm, 2.35a is 2.35 cm, etc.

5.3.5 The two columns on the sides of the soyombo shall be placed as shown in picture 8.

5.4. The material of the flag, requirements
5.4.1 The state flag shall be made with cotton, synthetic, mixed, silk, polyester and other materials that meet the standard ASTM D 6613-08.
5.4.2 In making the flag, various methods such as sewing, drawing, carving, printing, stitching, laminating, piercing, etc, and different technological methods may be used.
5.4.3 The life of the flag made of fabric that meets the ASTM D 6613-08 standards placed in the outside shall be 90 days.
6. The examination of the fabric
6.1 The fabric of the flag shall be examined in accordance with the following standards:
• MNS 1835-2 The fabric. The method to define the weight of 1 sq. metres

• MNS 4010 The fabric. The method to define thread components.
• MNS 1835-5 The fabric. The method to define the capacity when tearing and stretching.

• MNS 4070 The fabric. The method to define the colour strength when rubbing the dry and the wet.
• MNS 4073 The fabric. The method to define the colour strength when dry-cleaning.
