Mongolia Hosts World Harmony Run for the 13th Year

President Elbegdorj meets with the athletes of the World Harmony Run and the members of the Committee to organize the run in Mongolia Mr. N. Tsogtbaatar, Mr. S. Bilegt, US athlete P. Kalagian and a Russian athlete L. Peyukalova.
Many athletes from all over the world initiated this run to contribute to the cause of peace and harmony. The Asian part of the marathon started off on April 24, 2010 in Hiroshima, Japan, and has travelled 700 km in Japan, 450 km in South Korea and about a 1000 km in China, thus reaching Mongolia on May 15 at port Havirga in Dornod province.
The marathon brings together athletes from the USA, Russian Federation and Mongolia, who plan to run some 2600 km from eastern Mongolia to Mongolian western borders to reach the Tsagaannuur port of Bayan-Ulgii province on June 7, further heading to Gorno-
Altaisk city of the Russian Federation. Then the torch of the run will be handed to the Russian athletes.
A member of the group, a volunteer runner has expressed support of the Presidential decree to Promote Public Sports in Mongolia and thanked the President for initiatives to promote peace, understanding and harmony.
A philosopher, musician, poet Sri Chinmoi initiated this peace run in 1987 starting off at the UN headquarters in New York every two years, and a tradition has been established for the run to cover more than 100 countries.
Mongolia joined the run in 1995 and since then has participated for 13 times thus expressing solidarity with the humankind for peace, harmony and prosperity.
